About the Host

Mary Beth Ricks is a passionate educator who has spent her entire

professional career focused on the education of children, with an

emphasis on Montessori methods and Montessori school management.

She proudly serves as Head of School at Bowman School in Palo Alto,

California where she started as a lower elementary teacher when the

school was founded in 1995.

 After more than 32 years as an educator in public and private schools,

and more than 25 of those years in the Montessori environment, Mary Beth understands the long-term benefits of the Montessori methodology and how it positively impacts students, families, and communities. She is recognized as a successful independent school leader and is a frequently requested speaker at national events. MaryBeth was also a recipient of the 2011 YWCA TWIN award for Women in Business.  

 Mary Beth received her degree in both Elementary Education and Childhood Education from Purdue University and attended St. Mary’s College of California where she trained as a Montessori teacher for ages 6 through 12 years. Mary Beth also completed a Heads of School training program for Montessori School Management at the Montessori Training Center in New York.

In addition to serving as the president of the Bay Area Montessori Association, Mary Beth serves as the Co-Chair for the IMC Accreditation Commission and is a member of the American Montessori Society Board of Directors.
